What is Hyper pronation?
You are probably familiar with the term pronation, but maybe you were not aware that just like there are two kinds of cholesterol, there are two kinds of pronation. Normal (good) pronation is purposefully directed from the hips to unlock the foot in preparation for the heel striking the ground during gait. It enables the foot to cushion the impact. Hyper-pronation (bad) has its origin in the skeletal structure of the feet. It causes the longitudinal arch to collapse and ankle to roll inward, when the foot becomes weight bearing. This causes strain on the rest of the body.
Simply stated, the feet can be compared to the foundation under a building. If the foundation sags, so does the building.
How do the Posture Control Insoles work?
Posture Control Insoles™ are not traditional orthotics because they employ a revolutionary forefoot technology. Rather than being a passive foot support system, Posture Control Insoles™ are proprioceptive devices that cause the body to realign and reposture with every step.
Posture Control Insoles® are designed to cause your muscles to facilitate foot correction for hyper pronation and supination. Foot mechanics, gait and posture is corrected naturally. Your feet and your body are strengthened by free natural motion rather than weakened by restricted motion as is the case with traditional arch supports.
The reason so many people find arch supports uncomfortable and even painful to wear is that the medial side of the foot literally has to straddle the arch support for the first metatarsal to reach the ground.
Posture Control Insoles® are designed to induce a proprioceptive response causing the first metatarsal and big toe to become properly weight bearing
What is Proprioception?
Proprioception is the body’s sense of position, direction and motion. Proprioception is the regulating neuromuscular mechanism that allows you to stand upright even if someone bumps into you. Proprioception causes an immediate muscle action intended to regain balance and equilibrium.
Because the Posture Control Insoles™ rely on proprioception, the dimensions of the insoles are small, so they fit comfortably in most footwear. They are soft and comfortable to wear, so compliance is high.
Easy to fit and cost effective
Dr Melissa Colbert and Dr Nicole Higgon have years of experience with Posture Control Insoles. No castings or mouldings are needed. Your Osteopath will take a number of digital photos in front of a posture grid. This in combination with a thorough body assessment will allow your Osteopath to determine if Posture Control Insoles can help you.
